UK ECGD Visit NMSI Ghana Office

UK Export Finance (ECGD) visited Accra on 28 November. UK government officials – Rebecca Schade, Miles Hitchcock and Helen Russell – visited the NMSI office for a project briefing meeting during which they were introduced to the NMSI Ghana team and received latest updates on the hospital project by directors Peter Marks and Fred Hsu.

UK Pre-Construction Workshop

A two-week Design Workshop too place in London in early November. This marked a critical stage of the Design Phase and involved representatives from the Ghana Design team (Teracon, Isopanels, Impress-Technologies and eSolutions), the UK Design Team and representatives from the Ministry of Health. The team also closely reviewed plans or the Dodowa hospital which is the first to be built.

NMSI donate Fridge to Orphan Aid

A warm and sunny Saturday in September – perfect weather to make the leisurely drive down to Dodowa, a green mango-rich district 40 km northeast of Accra to deliver a new four-burner cooker to Orphan Aid Africa. Cori Deterding, Orphan Aid’s Chief Fundraising and Officer, had mentioned the need for a fridge to house medicines for about a dozen of their children with cerebral palsy when a team from NMSI visited the home  earlier this month.

Dodowa District Authorities Lend Support

The undertaking by Dodowa District local authorities to provide mains water and electricity to the site boundary of the hospital has sent a strong signal about the district’s support for the hospital project. Site Survey at Dodowa Site Complete

Six weeks of intensive testing during site surveys at Dodowa have resulted in good news. Analysis of soil sample analysis in Accra-based laboratories has determined that the site is suitable for construction. Local materials will be used to underpin and support the new buildings. Read More
